ATHUEL CANYON

TWO YEARS AGO WE WERE VISITING THE ATHUEL CANYON IN MENDOZA. IT WAS A SUNNY DAY. WE STARTED TO DRIVE BY THE RIVER BANK. ATHUEL CANYON HAS WONDERFUL VIEWS LIKE THE COLOURS OF THE ROCKS OR THE SPECIAL COLOURS OF THE WATER.
ATHUEL RIVER IS VERY THIN BUT THERE ARE SOME DUMS.WHILE WE WERE TRAVELLING THE SKY STARTED GETTING DARK, IMMEDIATELY IT BEGAN TO RAIN. IN A FEW MINUTES THE RAIN TURNED INTO A POUR. SUDDENLY THE RAIN STOPPED AND WATERFALLS APPEARED FROM ALL OVER THE PLACE.
AS A RESULT WE COULDN´T CONTINUE OUR JOURNEY BECAUSE THE ROAD WAS FLOODED.
WE HAD TO STAY THERE FOR MANY HOURS. THOSE HOURS SEEMED ETERNAL.
FINALLY WHEN THE WATER LEVEL WENT DOWN WE COULD CONTINUE OUR TRIP.
IT WAS AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE AND WE WERE VERY FRAIGHTENED.

The Storm:

This happened in january 2010,I was at home in the countryside. The day was beautiful with a gentle breeze and a warm sun  but around midnight a heavy storm with strong winds and hail began. The storm caused the electricty to fail.
The next morning I woke up and the storm was over, but the strong winds and hail had caused much damage.
When I went out walking I found fallen trees and the river had fooded the land. Despite the damage caused by the storm, the next day was beautiful and there weren´t weather alerts for the rest of the week.

The Storm

I don't remenber when this happened, but I remember why it happened.
One day I went to my office at 8 o´clock, the weather forescast had given notice of a heavy storm but I didn´t know that the rain would be a problem.
I didn´t realise when it started to rain, but it poured for hours.
My office only had a window trought which it was impossible see the street.
That day I and my office mates didn´t know about the storm consequences when we went out to our houses. The roads were flooded, the side walks wer destroyed,  there was no energy and at the parking of the Mega Supermarket, nearly 100 cars were floating because the parking had flooded.

Future Continuous / Future Perfect

Quick example:
  • Tomorrow at this time, I will be taking my English Langauge exam.
  • Ben won't be eating the dinner now. He usually eats it around noon.!
  • Will you be coming to the party tonight?

We mainly use the Future Continuous (aka Future Progressive) to indicate that we will be in the middle of doing something in a specified time in the future. There are also two other uses, listed below:
Use
  1. Future actions in progress.
  2. Guesses about the present or the future.
  3. Polite questions about somebody's intentions*.
Good to know...
If you want to learn about somebody's intentions, you should always use the Future Continuous rather than the Present Simple. Using the Future Simple implies that you want to influence somebody's decision. Questions become much more objective if formed in the Future Continuous:
  • Will you come home? (= I want you to come home)
  • Will you be coming home? (= I just want to know)
USE 1: Future actions in progress
The first use of the Future Continuous is to express future action in progress.

Examples:
  • In an hour, I will be sitting in front of my TV.
  • In the evening, I will be baking a birthday cake.
USE 2: Guesses
Use this tense also to make guesses about something in the present or future.

Examples:
  • He won't be coming any time soon. He is still at the office.
  • Beatrice will be getting married very soon.
USE 3: Questions
The last (but not least) use of the tense is to make polite questions about something or somebody.

Examples:
  • Will you be coming home before or after 10 p.m.?
  • Will you be going to the supermarket? I have something to buy.
Form

Contracted forms (more)

WILL = 'LL
Example: She'll have been = she will have been
WILL + NOT = WON'T
Example: She won't have been = she will not have been
Important: The Future Continuous appears in two forms: "will" form and "going to" form which can be used interchangably.
Example: "She will be dancing" means "she is going to be dancing"

Declarative Sentences
Subject+Auxiliary verb+Auxiliary verb+Verb + ing
e.g. I/a dog etc.willbee.g.working/going/making
  • She'll be having a bath when I'm back home. (Use 1)
  • Tomorrow at nine, I will be hosing off (=washing with a hose) my car. (Use 1)
  • This time next week, I am going to be throwing a party. (Use 1)
  • I'll be watching TV when my mother arrives. (Use 1)
  • They will be getting home just about now. (Use 2)
Quick example:
  • By the next year, I will have graduated from university.

We use the Future Perfect tense to express an action that will be finished before some point in the future.
Use
  1. Actions that will be finished before some point in the future.
Common Time Expressions
Time expressions that are commonly used with the Future Perfect:
  • Before
  • By tomorrow/7 o'clock/next month
  • Until/till
USE 1
The only use of this tense is to talk about future actions that will be finished before some specified point in the future.

Examples:
  • Before they come, we will have cleaned up the house.
  • John will have eaten the whole cake, by the time the party starts!

Our own Stories - Weather

Inglés AR61 -

I was 8 years old when there was a flood in Rosario. I remember that I was in a shop with my mum  when suddenly it started to rain. I thought that it was a normal rain, but I was wrong. It was a heavy storm.
We stayed inside the store to protect ourselves from the weather and because we felt scared.

I was very nervous when I woke up that morning because one hour later I had a test to get my driving license. I was going with my brother to the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles when  I realized that the weather was foggy so we drove slowly to protect ourselves from it. I never felt scared but unfortunately I couldn't do my test that morning.

When I was 17, I went to the island with a friend of mine by Kayak. The weather was awful, there was a terrible heatwave but we didn't mind. When we were crossing the river I felt in danger because my skin was so red and I had done nothing to protect it from the sun. In conlusion, I spent in a bed the next two days.

Ice balls

On November 15th , 2006, I was coming home and I didn't know if I had to put the car in the garage or leave it outside because it was cloudy. I decided to leave it outside. The sky was getting darker but I didn't imagine what was coming.
I called Arnet in order to complain about an internet connection problem that I had been having. When I could start to talk with somebody, I heard that the wind was blowing hard. Suddenly, the hailstorm started.
The diameter of the hail stones was 6 cm. The phone call was interrupted. I went to the door thinking about parking the car in the garage, but when I tried to go out an ice ball hit me on my leg violently so I couldn't move the car.
After 15 minutes, the hailstorm stopped. Fortunately, the only damage on the car was the left window broken. However, the city was destroyed.
Federico

This happened on 9th July 2009 in a small town called Villa Cañás. I was sleeping when I heard the cry of my niece: "It's snowing!, It's snowing!. I couldn't believe it because in this area it had never snowed before so Immediatley I woke up and looked out to see how the snow had covered all the field. In every garden and every car all people made a snowman, then everybody went to around the square with their cars, one behaind the other blowing their horns. We were happy because it was the first time that we saw a snowfall.
On the other hand inside the houses we had run out of water because it had frozen.

Let it Snow....

Let It Snow : Lyrics

Oh the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

It doesn't show signs of stopping,
And I've bought some corn for popping,
The lights are turned way down low,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

When we finally kiss goodnight,
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight,
All the way home I'll be warm.

The fire is slowly dying,
And, my dear, we're still good-bying,
But as long as you love me so,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

Umbrella With Lyrics - Rihanna

Singing in the Rain - Gene Kelly

Gene Kelly
SINGIN' IN THE RAIN Lyrics

Don Lockwood:
Doo-dloo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-dloo-doo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-dloo-doo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-dloo-doo-doo-doo-doo...

I'm singing in the rain
Just singing in the rain
What a glorious feelin'
I'm happy again
I'm laughing at clouds
So dark up above
The sun's in my heart
And I'm ready for love
Let the stormy clouds chase
Everyone from the place
Come on with the rain
I've a smile on my face
I walk down the lane
With a happy refrain
Just singin',
Singin' in the rain

Dancin' in the rain
Dee-ah dee-ah dee-ah
Dee-ah dee-ah dee-ah
I'm happy again!
I'm singin' and dancin' in the rain!

I'm dancin' and singin' in the rain...
[ADDITIONAL VERSE]
Why am I smiling
And why do I sing?
Why does September
Seem sunny as spring?
Why do I get up
Each morning and start?
Happy and head up
With joy in my heart
Why is each new task
A trifle to do?
Because I am living
A life full of you.
